I admired Darcy’s persistence to improve conditions for the disabled. Thank you.

Just heartbroken to hear of Darcy’s passing. I met Darcy at the Y and looked forward to seeing her every week in the pool where we had many wonderful conversations about almost everything. As a fellow Y friend said when we shared the news of her passing, “she was so lovely”. That really just about says it all. To Bob and Darcy’s siblings, I know that you will miss her more than words can say. Please know I am thinking of you all at this very sad time. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

In my late teens and early twenties, you were one of my role models with your passion, generous spirit, and a smile that would brighten any room.
Your memory is a blessing for all who met you.
My deepest condolences to BobK, Michael, Liz, BobD, and to everyone who had the honor of calling Darcy a friend.

I was saddened to learn of her passing. Through the world of SF conventions I became acquainted with various Devneys (and Darcy’s beloved Bob Kuhn), and my world is richer for it. She exuded warmth and humor and it was always a pleasure to see her. May her memory be a blessing.

I’m so sorry for your loss, or should I write that the world was so blessed to have Darcy in it. On Monday I wrote the obituary for my mother Gail Kaepplein, as I had for my father Howard ten years before (who also died of cruel idiopathic interstitial lung disease). I have been pondering what to say at her wake – how to ever sum up a life full of diverse passions that most of her friends only knew a few of. I try to focus on how fortunate we are to have shared so many years and life experiences with an extraordinary person. That, and OMG, what am I going to do with all her cherished books, magazines, and crafted possessions?!

I didn’t know she wrote actual books on organization!

This is a lovely tribute. It is hard to wrap my mind around the fact that she was busily raking leaves and now she’s gone! She will be missed on Thorndike Street for sure. My most sincere condolences to Bob and her family.

Dear Robert,
I am so saddened by this news. It was an honor to co-chair the Disability Commission with her and am reminded of her hard work and dedication which was unparalleled. I remember fondly her having me come to your house and practice my presentation to the town selectman with your oversight. Every detail was thoroughly managed by Darcy.
Though life got too busy to connect often, I will always have the warmest of memories and consider her a dear friend. She was kind, warm, intelligent and witty!
She will be missed by all. I am so sorry for your loss. If you need anything or help planning a celebration of her life.
Sincerely,
Cynthia -
I was privileged to call Darcy a close friend for over 40 years. My wife and I enjoyed many teas, meals, museum outings and social events with Bob and Darcy over those many years. Darcy brought a joy for life, class, and humor to our every meeting. I always admired Darcy’s organizational skills and was part of the moving crew that helped Bob and Darcy move into their (then) new home. Darcy brought an incredible degree of organization and clockwork-like efficiency to that move that was admired by all who participated. Darcy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

We met when we were twelve, both with curious minds and loving hearts. Not a recipe for success in middle school, but we sustained each other then and through various chapters of life over 50+ years.
Darcy, you will always be with me. With love always, MC -
Dear Michael,
I’m so sorry for your loss of your sister Darcy.
I remember meeting Darcy at Harvard and she was a wonderful person. She was caring and accomplished so much. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all your family at this difficult time. With deepest sympathy, Christine McElroy -
My apologies for how long it took me to get the comments to display. As you can imagine, web designing and moderating were not my highest two priorities this week.

I worked as a reference librarian at the Cambridge Public Library for many years. I always loved seeing Darcy and Bob when they visited the library. In fact, I remembering referring patrons to her book, “Organizing Special Events and Conferences” many times and secretly thanking Darcy for writing the perfect resource!

I met my cousin Darcy when I was a few years old and she joined us on a road trip to Disney. Mostly what I remember was that I was too young to ride the go-karts with her and my siblings Laura and Steve. And since they were Speed Racer style cars they were the coolest things I’d ever seen. 🙂
Much later when our Aunt Ann started hosting annual luncheons for the family I got to experience Darcy’s wit and kindness. So Devney! And then over time I also got to see her organizational genius in action.
I will miss her – she had so much more to give.

Horrible, shocking news. Darcy was genuinely one of the kindest, gentlest people I’ve ever had the honor to befriend. My deepest condolences.
